Terrence R. Malloy
Dr. Terrence R. (Terry) Malloy, longtime doctor, clinical professor, retired surgeon, and former chief of urology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, died May 8, 2024 of Alzheimer’s. Terry studied engineering at Yale and then spent three years in the US Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division where he made 32 parachute jumps. Upon discharge, Terry decided he wanted to be a doctor. He graduated from Penn’s medical school in 1963 and completed his residency in urology there in 1968. He began his practice at Pennsylvania Hospital and served in several capacities there from 1968 until 2012, including chief of urology, director of the hospital’s urology residency program, chairman of its operating room committee, and president of the medical staff. During his final years of practice, he joined several of his former students practicing in Temple University’s urology department, retiring in 2019. Terry held several leadership positions in regional and national urological and educational organizations and wrote over 150 scholarly papers plus giving over 500 formal presentations. At Yale, Terry was a star lacrosse player and later worked as an Ivy League lacrosse referee. He was also an excellent tennis player. One of his daughters described Terry as a genius who never lost his sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Michele Munley, whom he married in 1970.
