Hayden T. ‘Herb’ Hawthorne, Jr.
Hayden T. Hawthorne Jr. (also known to his close friends and family as Herb) passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family July 13, 2024, at his home in Norton Massachusetts.
Hayden was born June 23, 1933, in New York City, the son of Hayden and Mary Hawthorne and grew up in Glenridge, New Jersey. After graduating from Trinity Pawling High School, Hayden spent a post graduate year at Radley college in Abington England, where he developed his lifelong passion for rowing. He earned his degree from Yale University in 1956 and furthered his education at Harvard University School of Business earning his MBA. Hayden started in banking in the 1950s and continued his successful career for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife Mary R. Hawthorne of Norton, Massachusetts, his brother Tony Hawthorne, and wife, Trish of Berkeley, California, his children Sally Hawthorne, and her husband Greg Rotman of Malibu, California, Jennifer Noonan and her husband Jeremy of Barrington, Rhode Island, Steve Hawthorne and his wife Rhonda of Dunstable, Massachusetts, his grandchildren Ben, Katie, Myles, Ellie, bee and Henry, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Hayden and Molly settled in Simsbury, Connecticut and enjoyed raising their family there. As a member of the Farmington Valley Rowing Association, Hayden continued his love of rowing both on the water and off as an admired coach of the Simsbury High School rowing team. He will always be remembered for his seat on the sidelines, cheering for his grandchildren. Hayden loved the company of friends and family, along with a well-mixed cocktail and an array of the “best” hors d’oeuvres!.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mark’s Church, 116 South Street Foxborough, Massachusetts, at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service at St. Mark’s Church. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Hayden may be made to St. Mark’s Church, 116 South Street, Foxborough, Massachusetts 02035.
