Douglas W. (Doug) Smith
Dr. Douglas W. (Doug) Smith died on March 3, 2025. After Yale, Doug proceeded to obtain his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine followed by a residency in pathology at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, New York, and two years in the U.S. Army. After his service, he and his young family moved to East Brunswick, New Jersey, where Doug began his 30-year career at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. For 17 years he was its co-director of the laboratory and Chief of Staff. Doug learned to sail at a young age and became a skilled competitive sailor, who along with his brother, became a national K-boat champion. He later encouraged his daughters to enjoy the sport and led his family to sail both at home and abroad. In retirement he relocated to Eastern Shore, Maryland, with his family and his sailboat. He is survived by his wife Beryl.
