Frederick A. Flatow, Jr. MD

Frederick A. Flatow, Jr., M.D. of Guilford, CT passed away surrounded by his family on February 25, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Flatow was born on March 2, 1934, the son of Frederick Albert Flatow and Doris K. Flatow of Meriden, CT. He was educated at the Loomis Chaffee School class of 1952, Yale University class of 1956 and Cornell Medical School class of 1960. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve assigned to the National Institute of Health as a research fellow focused on cancer research. His 67-year medical career as an Oncologist/Hematologist was split between private practice in Springfield, MA, and as Medical Director of the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, CT. During the course of his career he had an immeasurable impact on thousands of patients and their families. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra E. Flatow, his children, Jonathan A. Flatow and daughter-in-law Mary-Ellen W. Flatow, Jennifer F. Culhane and son-in-law Robert Goldenberg, Matthew D. Flatow and son-in-law Steven Walder-Flatow and grandchildren, Ames F. Flatow, Emmett F. Culhane and Aengus B. Culhane, his sister, Lynne N. Johnston, and numerous nieces and nephews. He devoted his life to his family and the practice of medicine. A memorial service will be held at the Guilford Congregational Church on Saturday, March 3rd at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow at the Guilford Yacht Club.
